Steward Nominations Open

Hello Members,

It is that time again to nominate and vote for a Steward to represent your Shop.  Please post this notice/poster to the union board in your shops.

Nominations for Shop Stewards occur every two years in October. The process is as follows.  

  • Nominations for Shop Steward positions will be accepted between October 6th and October 20th, 2016
  • Nominate yourself or a member of your Unit to stand for Shop Steward by emailing your nomination to:  ysbcupe2195@gmail.com by October 20th, 2016.
  • Voting will be arranged by the Local Executive as needed after Nominations deadline has past

We welcome all questions and feedback so please feel free to contact your Steward or the UEC as needed.

Oct 5th By-Election Vote for UEC Recording Secretary

Hello Members !

As mentioned at the last membership meeting. We have a vacancy of the Recording Secretary position on the Union executive committee. As per our bylaws we are having a by-election to fill the vacancy at the upcoming October General Meeting.

We would like to start by extending an incredibly large thank you to Almarine Thomas who has been our Recording Secretary for +/- 8 years.

The election process will be as follows. Nominations will take place at the October 5th general membership meeting @ 1878 Triole, the CUPE Ontario, Ottawa area office from 12-1pm. The member(s) being nominated must be in attendance at the meeting or have another member submit their consent to be nominated at the start of the meeting, in writing, duly witnessed by another member.

If multiple nominations are received, the vote by secret ballot will take place at that same Oct 5th meeting. The acclaimed or  successful candidate will be presented by the meeting’s end.

We would love to see everyone in attendance if you have any questions please check in with your steward.

•         President: Don Baker: Available most of the summer except for a few TBD dates
•         First Vice President: Bonnie Graham : away tentatively the last week in August 2016
•         Second Vice President: Sonja Prakash :  away July 15th-August 8th, and August 19th-August 29th
•         Recording Secretary: Almarine Thomas : away the last week in August 2016
•         Secretary Treasurer: Steven Boucher : Available most of the summer except for a few TBD dates

Chief Steward: Ryan McKay: Away July 29th-August 15th

We ask that stewards inform members on their unit(s) of their vacation/absence and who to seek support from.
