CUPE2195’s Racialized Workers Caucus Launch

Welcome CUPE2195 Members

Join us in celebrating CUPE2195’s Racialized Workers Caucus launch. The current members are Stephen Atakorah, Almarine Thomas, Leah Paul and Mitra Bissessar.

So why the need for a Racialized Workers Caucus?

We live in a world where systemic racism leads to discrimination and division that undermine the rich and multifaceted social fabric found in our workplaces and our community at large.

Our purpose is to:

  • Create a safer space for our Local’s racialized workers to share their experiences and lend their voices to bettering our workplace.

  • Engage the Local’s racialized members to union affairs.

  • Achieve racial equity within our Local by working with CUPE2195 union executives, members, and our employer.

The dignity of every member (including racialized workers) is essential to have a healthy and vibrant union and workplace. As a caucus, we believe that there is strength in numbers and in working with allies. If you are interested in being an ally or a member of the Racialized Workers Caucus, we would love to hear from you! Please send your interest to Stephen Email.

In celebration of Black History Month 2021, every week, we will be sharing stories honouring the legacies of Black Canadians. To test your knowledge, we will have a weekly quiz about Black Canadian history with the chance to win…..a new car….just kidding!!!! Each week, the first 2 people to send their correct answers to Almarine at Email will win a gift card.

In solidarity,

Your Racialized Workers Caucus
