CANDACE RENNICK
National Secretary-Treasurer

On behalf of CUPE’s Safe Spaces Working Group, we would like to invite you to share your feedback on violence and harassment in our union. We will be hosting 2 listening sessions on January 19 and 29. Any CUPE member is welcome to join.

As a Working Group, we are working on addressing sexual violence and gender-based harassment as well as other forms of harassment and discrimination in our union spaces.

Over the last several months, the Working Group has been conducting research and developing recommendations to tackle violence and harassment in all its forms. Made up of the women members of the NEB, the Working Group is committed to making sure we develop and improve tools, policies and practices to end gender-based violence within CUPE.

You are all invited to take part in one of our Safe Union Spaces listening sessions, on January 19 or January 29. Register at: https://cupe.ca/listening

Simultaneous translation in English, French and ASL will be provided.

Please note that the listening sessions will involve discussion of sexual harassment and gender-based violence. The ombudsperson will be available during and after the sessions, and can be contacted at ombuds@cupe.ca

If you or someone you know is experiencing violence or harassment, or you need support for any reason, a list of resources can be found here: https:/surveys.ggi.ca/cwpublic/Resources_English.pdf

FAQs about claims and COVID-19

Updated: December 21, 2021

See our main COVID-19 page.

COVID-19 claims and coverage

While the nature of some people’s work may put them at greater risk of contracting the virus, for example those treating someone with COVID-19, any claims received by the WSIB will need to be adjudicated on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the facts and circumstances.

  • If you contracted COVID-19 while at work (you have a diagnosis or symptoms of COVID-19),  you should tell your employer about your illness and any medical treatment you received right away, and you may file a claim to determine if you are eligible for WSIB coverage.
  • If you believe you were exposed to COVID-19 while at work, but you are not ill at this time (you do not have a diagnosis or symptoms of COVID-19), please do not file a claim. Instead, you can report an exposure incident. Reporting your exposure is voluntary, but if you become ill in the future we’ll be able to process your claim faster.

Get Your SWAG On in 2022!

Due to the recent restrictions and for safety reasons, we will be delaying the SWAG distribution until further notices.  A notice will be sent out in the near future once these restrictions are lifted and a safe plan has been developed.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.
